New York City!
From Broadway To The World Stage
Glenys began her career at just 13 years old, launching into the world of musical theatre, where her multifaceted talents as a singer, dancer, and actress flourished. Though she wasn’t around in the 1960s, she has lived the era on stage, starring in some of the most iconic rock musicals ever written:
Hair ( European Tours)
Jesus Christ Superstar ( alongside Billy Porter, Emily Skinner and Constantine Maroulis – NYC )
Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (US National Tour)
Elvis-The Musical (Europe)
Little Shop of Horrors (several productions)
Beehive (regional theatre)
The Buddy Holly Story (New York)
Ain’t Misbehavin’ (Guatemala – Festival)
Beyond the theatre world, Glenys has graced stages across the globe, seizing every opportunity to perform anywhere a microphone and a stage could be found.
A Sound As Diverse As Her Roots
Born and raised in New York City—a cultural melting pot—Glenys’ voice embodies the diverse musical traditions of her hometown: Jazz, Musical Theatre, Gospel, Soul, Rock, R&B, House, Electronica, and Latin. For her, these are not just genres but part of her cultural DNA.
Unlike artists who study American music as an external influence, Glenys lives and breathes these sounds as a natural extension of her artistic identity.
Her professional music career took flight when she joined the teen girl group Mamba (BMG). Since then, her versatility has led her to perform Off-Broadway, on international tours, in TV, film, commercials, concerts, and radio. She has even modeled for Jean Paul Gaultier & Versace and contributed to numerous global recording projects.
Glenys Vargas + Gotham Jazz Project
Today, she continues to perform throughout Europe with her jazz ensemble, Glenys Vargas + Gotham Jazz Project, which ranges from a classic duet to a full big band. After arriving in Munich, she first performed at the World Food Programme Global Meet at Bayerischer Hof before forming the Munich edition of her jazz project. Since then, she has become a recurring presence at Jazzbar Vogler and other prestigious venues.
A Career Without Borders
Glenys has written and recorded music for various international projects:
“Love Project” – Reached #1 on the Milan House Music Charts
“Piu Blu Alpha” – Chillout/Jazz compilation
“Los Angeles Sound Experience” – Distributed worldwide as part of Pall Mall’s LA campaign
“I Get High On…” – An anti-drug House music anthem that hit #1 on the Miami House Charts at the DJ Music Conference
Her versatility has led her to collaborate with London-based rapper Kevin Ettienne, creating a unique Hip-Pop sound that crosses borders.
After performing on the Eurovision stage in Oslo with Albanian contestant Juliana Pasha, the demand for more was overwhelming. This inspired her to expand her international reach further.
Glenys has also performed for world leaders, prime ministers, and cultural icons, including legendary film director Michelangelo Antonioni, with whom she appeared in the film Con Michelangelo.
Glenys may currently reside in Europe but she enjoys traveling to other countries and therefore has set her career in motion on an international scale. After appearing on the 2010 Eurovision stage in Oslo, Norway with the Albanian contestant, Juliana Pasha, the media begged for more. This motivated Glenys to team up with London-rapper, Kevin Ettienne. Together, they created a unique sound that transcends borders.
After arriving in Munich, Glenys first performed at the World Food Programme Global Meet at Bayerischer Hof. After which, she formed her Munich edition of Glenys Vargas + Gotham Jazz Project. Together they have performed at Jazzbar Vogler numerous times.
Although she currently calls Europe home, Glenys continues to travel, perform, create, paint, write, and design. With an insatiable passion for art and music, she embraces life as a true global artist.
And while she may reside in one place, she considers herself…
…a citizen of the world.
